City's View

jazz is in
your eye
heavy and concrete
twisting and
curving like hips,
sighing through
lips tender,
and screaming
from city streets
to georgia
cane breaks -
streetlights shining
on the earthtone
of the soul.

jazz is in
your tongue
sweet and bitter
whisper light
forever shifting
tectonic plates
massive as the sun
burning you back
cool. this is
your life
played
backwards
in the span
of a solo.
